With the development of economy and technology, the multi-functional mobile phone has become the extension of network media and is widely used by modern people. Due to their rich knowledge and willingness to accept new things, college students, as the representative of the young, have become an important group of mobile phone users. Students of independent colleges are more likely to develop mobile phone dependence because of their unique features, lack of self-discipline, for example. Mobile phones bring people a series of negative effects as well as convenience and efficiency, among which mobile phone dependence is a problem which shouldn’t be neglected. It is extremely urgent to make a study on mobile phone addiction of students of independent colleges. To make a better study of the usage of mobile phone and the mechanism of addiction, we must explore the personality traits. This study has theoretical and practical significance in probing into the mechanism of college students’mobile phone addiction, the intervention strategy and cultivation of healthy personality.Based on questionnaires about mobile phone addiction and16Personality Factors, taking the college students of one independent college in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province as the research object, this paper studies the features of college students’relying on mobile phones in independent colleges and the functional mechanism of personality traits on college students’mobile phone addiction, thereby provides theoretical support for the prevention of mobile phone addiction and a possible guidance subsequent researches. The results are as follows:First, mobile phone addiction of students in independent colleges presents normal distribution; most of them are dependent on mobile phones slightly or moderately, not so serious as expected. And there is no statistically significant difference in gender, grade and major.Second, there is very significant difference between college students on different levels of mobile phone addiction in the nine personality dimensions of Factors B, G, H, I, L, O, Q3&Q4, less significant difference in Factor E, and no obvious difference in Factors A, F, M, N, Q1&Q2. The higher the mobile phone addiction is, the higher in Factors C, I, O, Q4, but the Lower in Factors C, G, H&Q3.Third, there is a negative correlation between the mobile phone addiction and Factors C, E, G, H&Q3. Independent college students who are highly dependent on mobile phones get much lower points than the students who are less dependent on phones. There is a positive correlation between the mobile phone addiction and Factors I, L, O&Q4on a0.01level. The students highly dependent on phones get higher points than the others. This is no significant relationship between Factor B and mobile phone dependence.Fourth, Factors C&G have an negative predictive effect on mobile phone addiction, while Factors I&L have positive predictive effects.Thus mobile phone dependence prevention for IndependentInstitute Students are proposed, implementing countermeasures to improve the personality construction.
