Anxiety is one of the most significant psychological factors in the language study. Its impact on the effectiveness of language study is well worth study.Though the studies on foreign language anxiety home and abroad are numerous, most of the studies were on other anxieties. By far, the study on English listening anxiety is relatively less. What’s more, the study on the correlation between listening anxiety and listening proficiency is much less. On the other hand, the relevant studies on listening anxiety in China usually choose the non-English majors as the participants. These studies have not achieved any agreement on the correlation between the listening anxiety and the listening proficiency yet.This study aimed to investigate the correlation between the English majors’listening anxiety and their listening test result. It chose the English majors as its participants, adopted the instruments like the classroom observation, questionnaire, listening proficiency test and interview, and utilized both the quantitative research and the qualitative research, trying to find answers to three questions:1) Is there any listening anxiety among the English majors? If there is, what is the state of their listening anxiety?2) What are the main causes of the English majors’listening anxiety?3) What is the correlation between the English listening anxiety and the English listening proficiency? How to relieve the students’listening anxiety?The conclusion can be drawn as the follows:1) It is common that the listening anxiety exists among the English majors;2) The main causes of the students’ listening anxiety should be ordered from most important to least:the unfamiliar listening situations, the negative self-evaluation of the listening proficiency, the bad listening habits and the inappropriate listening materials;3) The correlation between the listening anxiety and the listening test result is negative;4) The listening anxiety can be relieved by taking measures.This study will have a positive impact on the English listening teaching as well as the transformation of the English listening teaching concepts.
