| This paper is aimed at strengthening out the relationship between morphememeaning and word meaning of the same meaning category morpheme disyllablecompound nouns. There is a total of9181same meaning category morpheme disyllablecompound nouns according to the Database of Semantic Word Formation forDisyllable Compounds. On the basis of whether the morpheme meaning is consistentwith the word meaning, the author conducts the research by classifying the9181nounsinto similar words and undirected words. This paper further particularizes the similar rules in the same meaning categorymorpheme disyllable compound words. The similar rules refer to the consistence ofsemantic meaning between words and morphemes. For nouns of semantic category A,the morpheme semantic category combination which satisfies the similar rules is A+A.For nouns of semantic category B, the morpheme semantic category combinationwhich satisfies the similar rules is B+B. For nouns of semantic category C, themorpheme semantic category combination which satisfies the similar rules is C+C. Fornouns of semantic category D, the morpheme semantic category combination whichsatisfies the similar rules is D+D. The author takes the semantic category further intothe medium category level, calculating the probability of satisfying similar rules foreach medium category combination respectively. For instance, what is the probabilityof Aa+Aa transforming into A in nouns of semantic category A. And it is expected tocome to a more precise similar rules based on quantitative statistics. This paper also makes a semantic analysis on the undirected words in the samemeaning category morpheme disyllable compound words. First, according to how twomorpheme meanings turn into word meanings by metonymy or metaphor, theundirected word is classified into8categories. Then, according to qualia structures, theauthor analyzes which kind of qualia structure is reflected in the morpheme meaning ofundirected words. And at last, it is expected to find out the specific approach by whichthe undirected word’s morpheme meaning can transform into word meaning.Based on the above-mentioned analysis, the paper arrives at22qualia relationshipto explain what kind of qualia roles the morpheme meaning plays, what kind of relationship it is with word meaning, and whether it is a metonymy on the basis ofrelativity or a metaphor on the basis of similarity. Meanwhile, this paper correspondsthe undirected word’s qualia relationships with word formation types. Generally, thetransformation of undirected words’ morpheme meanings into word meanings mustrely on the metonymy or metaphor. As a result, most of the formations of undirectedwords fall into the fourth type: a+b=c, or the sixth type: a+b=a+b+d. This paperrespectively shows the undirected words with the word formation type of a+b=c ora+b=a+b+d, and the common qualia relationships between morpheme and words. Inaddition, the paper also makes a brief introduction of the semantic category directivityof undirected words in the same meaning category morpheme disyllable compoundwords as well as the cultural factors incorporated in these words. |
