| Material selection is a very critical step in the traditional Chinese painting creation,which could not only dominate the delivery quality of the artists’ skill set and their artprofessionalism, but also determine whether the works have a more beautiful structure andmoved motion to shock the viewers with a strong feeling and emotional resonance.However, the current Chinese painting creation may pursue a blindly replication and weakinnovation, ignoring the fundamental characteristics and the nature of art that are usuallyconsidered as the artistic spirit of Chinese painting. To re-emphasis the importance ofmaterial selection in the Chinese figure painting is extremely and practically meaningfulwhen correcting the current painting trend and express the character differentiations of thetraditional Chinese painting. This article revolves around author’s graduation works as thecore, including investigation of related research papers and visit art exhibits to study thesubjects and evolution of Chinese figure painting. Based on this comprehensive study,author fully understood the current situation of the contemporary Chinese figure painting.Through analysis, comparison, and exploring the figure painting styles during differentperiods, this paper concludes the three recommendations. The first recommendation is thatfinding the source and origin of artistic creation can help artists to create better presenttheir art works. The second recommendation is that building up a strong linkage betweenform and content can help artists, especially younger artists, to reduce the negative impactof mere formality. The third recommendation is that creating paintings under a trianglecycle, real life–society–people, can help artists to better deliver art quality and leavereviewers a deeper impression. |
