This paper is written based on the structural descriptive grammar, guided by the view on functionalism language. It tries to use the cognitive linguistics, in particular the construction grammar theory, to describe ditransitive construction of modern Chinese in a lot of details. Through these, this paper reveals the syntactic property of this construction, examines the relevant construction, resolves the variation and its motivation of this construction and strives to make a more reasonable explanation. This paper is presented as six chapters.Chapter one is introduction. Besides the exposition of the subject’s meaning and purpose, this paper reviews academic’s research situation towards modern Chinese language and ditransitive construction, mainly through traditional grammar, structural descriptive grammar, transformational generative grammar, valency grammar and many other aspects.Chapter two mainly studies the inheritance relationship of construction grammar, and simply expounds some relevance theories of construction grammar represented by Goldberg concerning. As academic background, this paper analyzes some demonstrations, especially the demonstration of English ditransitive construction. It examines three relevant subjects in some details. First one is construction grammar of argument structure. This section introduces that construction unidirectionally dominates verb, construction and its organization principle and the basic procedure of construction’s study. Second one is construction’s productive mechanism. It analyzes concept interpretation of productive, operational mechanism of gradient survey. The third one is motivation of inheritance links. It explains the conception of inheritance, definition of motivation and associated links. Chapter three is reviewing the archetype of ditransitive construction. Fromstructural grammar perspective, syntactic semantic attribution of Modern Chineseditransitive construction is concentrated on, analyzed and explained to revealconstruction. This section distinguishes the form of ditransitive construction basedon double-object sentence’s conventional boundary. Second one is argumentstructure of ditransitive construction. This section refines its constructional meaning;summarizes in prototype of semantic classification and illustrate sectional restrictionof semantic role.Chapter four is exploration of ditransitive construction’s succession. Based onproductive feature, this section mainly discusses two subclass constructions ofditransitive construction’s internal succession, on the premise that summarizingarchitecture framework of construction’s archetype and cognitive foundation. Firstsubclass is expression of get-type, for example,“na ta yi ben shu(拿他一本书)”. Itwill analyze verb’s admission and extended construction; argue discourse functionand pragmatic meaning’s change. Second subclass is expression of lease-type, forinstance,“mai ta yi liang che(买他一辆车)”. It explains mechanism of transferringinteractive class’s relation, and illustrates lease-type’s ambivalent phenomena.Chapter five is analysis of ditransitive construction’s variation. The analysis willfocus on the first subclass construction’s architecture framework, then this sectionwill discuss two variant construction derived by ditransitive construction. The firstone is predicate-object construction, for example,“chi ta ge da xian bing (吃他个大馅饼)”. It will explore the subjective quantity’s highlight and expansion of quantitycategory. The second one is predicate-complement construction, for instance,“chita ge tong kuai(吃他个痛快)”. This section focuses on construction’s variation anddecategorization phenomena, and analyzes associated inheritance and itsmotivation. The last chapter is conclusion. After discoursing upon this paper’s mainconclusion, it will illustrate some subjects which need further study.
