Phonological And Orthographic Processing Effect Of Chinese Characters On False Memory | Posted on:2015-06-29 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | Country:China | Candidate:R Q Sheng | Full Text:PDF | GTID:2285330467466681 | Subject:Applied Psychology | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | Research purposes: the purpose of experiment1is to test whether two kinds of subjects(college students and deaf mute students) will regard lure items as old and compare the twokinds of subjects’ response to the material of Chinese characters with same syllables andChinese pictophonetic characters; Experiment2explores whether there is any effect ofChinese pictophonetic characters association on false memory, with the comparison of twokinds of subjects on false memory; In experiment3, subjects study DRM lists with theassignments of judging the graphic structure or the tone of Chinese characters to explorewhether phonological and orthographic association could influent subjects’ performance onfalse memory, as well as the effect of the forewarned about falsely recognizing critical luresbetween study phase and test phase.Research results:(1) two kinds of subjects both regard the lure as old; Comparing thetwo kinds of subjects’ performance on three kinds of items finds out that deaf mute studentson proportions of lures and intruding items regarded as old are higher than that of collegestudents, and there is no difference between the two kinds of subjects on the performance ofregarding studied items as old.(2) Two kinds of subjects both generate false memory withorthographic association materials; With the materials of phonological association, deaf mutestudents’ performance on proportions of lures and intruding items regarded as old are higherthan that of university students and the proportions of studied items regarded as old are lowerthan that of college students; With the materials of orthographic association, there is nodifference between deaf mute students and college students on the proportions of lures andstudied items regarded as old, but deaf mute students’ performance on proportions ofintruding items regarded as old are higher than that of college students.(3) Graphic-judgmentsand phonological-judgments within DRM list both induce false memory; The proportions oflures items regarded as old are significantly higher within graphic-judgments than withinphonological-judgments and there is no difference on studied items regarded as old; Theproportions of lures items regarded as old with pre-warning are significantly higher than thatof lure items without pre-warning; Within phonological-judgments, there is no differencebetween the proportions of lures items regarded as old with pre-warning or withoutpre-warning; Within graphic-judgments, the proportions of lures items regarded as old withpre-warning are higher than the proportions of lures items regarded as old withoutpre-warning. Research conclusion:(1) Phonological and orthographic association materials both caninduce false memory;(2) Two kinds of subject are different in inducing false memory withphonological and orthographic processing of Chinese characters;(3)Comparing withphonological-judgments, graphic-judgments are better in reducing false memory, andgraphic-judgments is distinctiveness character;(4) To explore the effect of pre-warning,researchers need to pay attention to the location of pre-warning and the complexity of thewhole experiment. | Keywords/Search Tags: | false memory, phonological processing, orthographic processing, distinctivenessheuristic, pre-warning | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
