The Classic Language Of The Text And The Interpretation Of The Tradition

The classics, language and tradition is an interdependent unit of the "trinity".The conversion of the classic language of the text (generally, the conversion is translation) will lead to the changes and misreading of the understanding and interpretation of the tradition which belongs to the classics.The thesis lists the English translation of tian in The Analects of Confucius——taking Heaven, God, Sky for example, analyzing and discussing the differences between the understanding and interpretation of Chinese tradition in the English context and ancient Chinese context of The Analects of Confucius in detail. Through these differences, the thesis attempts to reveal the remodeling process of ancient Chinese classics and Chinese cultural tradition which is represented by the Chinese classics in the Western context. In this way, the thesis extends the compare and contrast as well as communication between Chinese and Western philosophy to the general problem, that is, the communication between them is possible. However, the possibility establishes the result of adjusting and remodeling the Chinese tradition in other cultural tradition. It is precisely the misunderstanding dialogue that enriches the different cultures as well as the entire resources of the human spirits.The thesis, in a retrospective angle, also analyses and discusses the following issues:the history of the English translation of The Analects of Confucius, the evolution of the concept of lion in the Chinese language itself, the historical evolution of the terms used in the English translation of tian in Western context as well as the understanding of tian of Western Sinology.
