| Cuisine culture is an important part of national culture. With the development of China’s economy, and due to its unique role, the translation of cuisine culture is becoming increasingly important.Suzhou Cuisine is a collection of prose which records many Suzhou cuisines. Based on Newmark’s communicative translation theory, this report analyses several Chinese-English translation examples from the aspects of language structure and cultural context and explores several practical translation strategies. Its main conclusion is that when translating texts of cuisine culture, translators should focus on the target-text readers and give priority to idiomatic expressions in the target language so as to facilitate communication. The author hopes that this study will provide some practical solutions to resolve the problems that arise in the translation of Chinese cuisine culture texts. |
