The balance of work and family was influenced by the organization, individual, family at the same time. Currently researchers have helped organizations, families and individuals recognize the importance of balancing demands. Based on the boundary theory, scholars have come to realize that environmental and personal factors should be considered at the same time. To help employees to better coordinate the affairs of two areas, organizations put forward some solutions, such as flexible, family friendly policy. However, the effect of the policies was not very well and the influence of policies on employees was limited. To analyze the reasons, the study used questionnaire survey and consensual qualitative research in the study from the perspective of boundary flexibility ability:Study 1:Using questionnaire, we selected 410 subjects in our study. The results showed that family flexibility ability positively related to the border control and segmentation preferences played a positive adjustment impact on the relationship between family flexibility ability and border control. However, work flexibility ability was not related with border control and segmentation preferences had no adjustment impact on the relationship between work flexibility ability and border control.Study 2:To analyze the reasons which leaded the different results among work flexibility ability, family flexibility ability and border control in our country, we used consensual qualitative research on 17 respondents. The total length of interviews were more than 500 minutes and the total transcribed verbatim transcript were more than one hundred thousand words. The results showed that the influenced factors of six related domains were emotional factors, flexibility, switching cost, support and availability, organizational climate and work priorities. The first three domains described personal factors and the latter three domains described work support and family support factors. The meaning of each domain and their relationship with study were discussed, futhermore,we carried out a typical case to analysis, for further validating the conclusions of the study.The study explored the relationship among work flexibility ability, family flexibility ability and border control based on boundary theory from the perspective of person-environment fit. The reasons of the different results were analyzed.
