From the writer’s narrative which the fundamental aspects of literature to explore Yan Geling’s retention and creative transformation of Chinese traditional literature as a overseas Chinese writer; Interpretation Yan Geling’s novels’ unique charm because of the blend two different qualities of Chinese and western literature. And hope to get some revelations from the writers experience so as to further explore the psychological and cultural roots of Yan Geling’s legend narrative.This paper is divided into five parts: The introduction part briefly carding the word “legend” from the distinguished name to the narrative pattern. Then bring Yan Geling into the legendary narrative perspective, from two sides of the writer’s life experience and creation concept explore the cause of Yan Geling’s legendary pursuit. The body of this paper is divided into three parts: The first chapter divisions of subject matter, expound the types of three legendary of Yan Geling’s novels: “army legend”, “overseas legend” and “history legend”; The second chapter mainly from the “earth mother” series, tortuous bizarre story and literary language three aspects summarize the legendary factors of Yan Geling’s novel that agree with the mass reading tendency; The third chapter on the basis of the theory of narratology, through romanticize plot and realistic details、the narrative person and point、the narrative time and space argument Yan Geling’s unique legend brushwork that combined the traditional and modern. In the conclusion part, as a summary of the full text and analysis the uniqueness of Yan Geling’s novel in overseas Chinese literature, point out the several shortcomings of Yan Geling’s legend narrative.
