A Study Of Subtitle Interpreting From A Cognitive Perspective

The Translation Perspective of Cognitive Linguistics claims that translation is determined by cognitive activities. The translation is the result of experience and cognition. It advocates that translation should be created wisely, rather than excessive creation. Therefore, it is a kind of balanced translation theory. The Translation Perspective of Cognitive Linguistics focuses on the process of cognitive activities emphasizes the experience and creativity of interpreter. The interpreter adopts various strategies to carry out translation activities according to the purpose and effect of communicative function. This translation theory provides theoretical support for interpreting studies. In interpreting practice, it explains and backs up the strategies employed in interpreting on the basis of three principles.This paper analyzes the case of Wild China and explores interpreting strategies from the perspective of Cognitive Translation Theory. In the light of this theory, a variety of translation methods can be taken to achieve better cultural exchanges. According to the three principles of Translation Perspective of Cognitive Linguistics, this paper illustrates five specific methods: literal translation, free translation, addition, omission as well as conversion. It is hoped that these methods would be conducive to coping with difficulties in interpreting.
