China has always been “a state of ceremonies” reputation, politeness is very important only in our country but in the world. Out of courtesy to communicate with other is the key to ensure the smooth communication, in our daily life, politeness formulae has naturally become an important tool for people to communication. With the upgrading of China’s international status, more and more foreigners want to further understanding of China, they take Chinese as their second language, the politeness formulae, which embodies the cultural meaning in Chinese, naturally becomes an indispensable content in teaching Chinese as a second language.This paper gives the definition and the classification of politeness formulae in Chinese, distinguishing politeness formulae and politeness language and systematically classifying the politeness formulae. Through the investigation, understanding the current situation of teaching and studying, finding the shortage of teaching and the errors of learning, then giving analysis. On the basis of the "Modern Chinese Dictionary(Sixth Edition)" and South Korean textbooks "Be Proficient in Chinese", analyzing the politeness formulae and putting forward the strategies in teaching Chinese as a foreign language. I hope this study can play a role in the future teaching Chinese as a second language.
