The Research Of Yuzhizhen’s Meticulous Flowers-and-Birds Painting Techniques

The Chinese fine brushwork flower-and-bird painting is one of the unique forms of Chinese paintings. By using a special technique and applying Chinese special brush and painting pigment, this style of painting was precisely and delicately done on specific Ripe Xuan paper or alum silk with the content being the flowers, birds,worms and fishes. As a contemporary famous painter and outstanding representative of the fine brushwork flower-and-bird painting, Yuzhizhen has inherited fine tradition and ushered in the future mission and has made great contributions to the succession and development of this style of painting. Therefore, Yuzhizhen’s paintings are not only of great theoretical value to the study of fine brushwork flower-and-bird painting but also instructive to the inheritance and development of this style of painting.This paper, through interviews, literature analysis and image analysis, studies the formation and characteristics of the traditional fine brushwork flower-and-bird paintings of Yu Zhizhen. The study has found that Yu has carried forward and developed the authentic and orthodox conventional techniques of Song and Yuan Dynasties, and his paintings are the models.The intention of this essay is to study the techniques of Yu Zhizhen’s fine brushwork flower-and-bird painting, and to make an objective evaluation on her position in the history of the development of Chinese flower and bird painting, and summarizes its artistic creating experience, so as to better inherit and develop the excellent tradition of the Chinese fine brushwork flower-and-bird.
