Francis Bacon was one of the greatest painters in the 20th century,the British art history.The most representative Bacon Art was Character Triptych.Triptych that was a main form of the Medieval Christian Imagery Altarpiece was back to Bacon’s works that were not the Altarpiece,religious themes or narrative story.His works did not only describe the specific characters, but also did not have the function of reproduction.They were characteristic of standards of performance.Because of the extreme exaggeration,Some characters in the picture even looked like animal shape.Whatever shape distortion, the painter should stress the expressions of the characters.Shockingly, these expressions of happiness and completely is the pain of anger.More precisely, Bacon’s painting expression was the pain of life.Therefore, these works was not only the state of the modern life, but also the state of painter’s psychology.Bacon keeps exploring the relationships between painting and life.the relationship between appearance and essence.He felt that it was only one way to show his hysterical heart through the triptych complex image.His character triptych often depicted different attitude of the characters.Each picture of character triptych that was vary and related to each other formed a unified whole.Each character that showed a unique attitude had a specific meaning that was different psychology of the artist.Through the different characters with different state of mind in different stages of life, it also showed that Francis Bacon’s strong expressive force to his changing psychological states.This paper first briefly reviewed the origin of western triptych, textual researched the inchoation of Bacon character triptych, explained the era of Bacon’s artistic creation and social background.In this paper, the evolution process of Bacon character triptych had been explained.Psychoanalysis and image study had been used to illustrate the meaning of Bacon’s works that included exaggerated deformation, violence, terror and gay novels in different creation stage to show Bacon’s suppressed and distorted mind world, spirit and personality traits. Bacon was addicted to his own inner world,observing the human society with a cold eye, full of fear and anger,peeking that all world was naked and human changed in temperature.For the ugly reality, he was deeply sorrow and pain, but could do nothing.As an artist. Bacon found the way to express emotion world.With images of the daub, freedom will themselves be Freud called the subconscious revealed the secrets of the world,he would present own inner secret world that called subconscious mind by Freud to ease his heart and alleviate the burden of the spirit.Bacon’s painting was a visual footnote of Freud’s psychoanalysis.Because of the revelation of human mental world and accurate expression of her emotional pain, Bacon established himself as a sublime in art history of the world.His paintings not only affected the new western expressionism, but also had a huge impact on contemporary Chinese painting.
