On The Narrative Art And Theme Implication Of Legend

Legend created by Pei Xing is one of the representative work of Tang Dynasty legendary novels, and enjoys a high reputation in the Chinese ancient novel. Although the book has been lost, according to the more than 30 stories left we can still see the face of the book. The study of Legend does not until after the founding of the eighties start to gradually heat up. Legend uses the historical writing method to narrative, its plot is complicated and structure is completed. The elegant ornate diction links virtual with reality. It both has the value of profound understanding, and is of great aesthetic value.This paper on the basis of-predecessors’ excellent study, uses close reading to analyze the text.It mainly adopts the method of close reading to further explore the novel narrative art and its implicated theme. The paper chooses the focus problem to analyze, rather than try to make profection.Thesis mainly is divided into three parts:The first part, analyzes the narrative structure of Legend. Firstly, combining with the story content and themes,this part studys four kinds of narrative patterns of Legend novels. It knows the subject classification and also be involved in the subject research. Secondly, discusses functional settings of the characters in the novel. And it is placed into four types of characters (origin, relationship, condition, environment), with a single text interpretation for the relationship of the four, shining upon other novel texts.The second part, analyzes narrative action of Legend. It discusses three questions: the reality fiction writing, artistic ways to express emotion and rhetoric of narrative discourse. This part will cut the text as arguments to support, using the method of deductive induction and comprehensive analysis, and analysis a few characteristics what the whole shows.The third part discusses the implication of Legend. From narrative mode, It can be seen that the psychological orientation, characterization, cultural background, aesthetic temperament and interest, when Pei Xing wrote novels. From the Legend narrative behavior, it witness that as a literary creation and how it is shown strange story to show the literary fiction. Therefore, based on the two parts research, third part mainly analysis three aspects. One is the late Tang Dynasty scholars’situation writing in the novel. The second is the aesthetic problems of the female characters in the story. The last is to explore the "problem" of adult fairy tale created outside of the power order.Legend was a matured and admired classical novel, written in the period of chaos in the late Tang Dynasty by Pei Xing. That the mystical color, chivalrous thought, and gremlin consciousness, to a different extent reflects the social status of Tang Dynasty. The works wrote scenes of life and the fate arrangement of the literati, the chivalrous person, female, Taoists, officials, businessmen, the lower people, assassin etc. They became the character image that has been living in the history of late Tang Dynasty. Legend also is a drama on Tang Dynasty which Pei Xing screenwriter and director. For the study of Pei Xing Legend remains to be further in-depth excavation, It plays a major role to rich Chinese ancient novels writing, understand the history social life of Tang, and spread the culture of the Chinese nation.
