“Dongqushi” is a very important structure in the study of Chinese Grammar. This thesis picks up a pair of verb “Xialai” and “Xiaqu” which denoting the space domain. The thesis illustrates the semantics of “Xialai” and “Xiaqu” from a more reasonable way. The basic domain of “Xialai” and “Xiaqu” is denoting space domain, Owing to the influence by the metaphorization, developing the new semantics domain — resulting domain, psychology domain, temporal domain and state domain. However, there is a very obvious asymmetrical phenomenon of “Xialai” and “Xiaqu” in the different semantic domain. Meanwhile, this thesis explores into the grammaticalization process of “Xialai” and “Xiaqu”, aiming to draw the conclusion of the triggers and grammaticalized mechanism of “Xialai” and “Xiaqu”.There are six chapters in this thesis:Chapter 1 talks about the purpose and significance of this thesis, summarizes the relevant research in domestic and overseas and introduces the theoretical background and methodology.Chapter 2 illustrates the semantics of “Xialai” and “Xiaqu” from a more reasonable way. The basic domain of “Xialai” and “Xiaqu” is denoting space domain, owing to the influence by the metaphorization, developing the new semantics domainresult domain, psychology domain, temporal domain and state domain.Chapter 3 discusses asymmetrical phenomena of “Xialai” and “Xiaqu” when they matched with different verbs in different categories. Meanwhile, applies the marked and unmarked theory into the asymmetrical phenomena of positive item and negative item of “V+de/bu +Xialai/Xiaqu”.Chapter 4 explores into the grammaticalization process of “Xialai” and “Xiaqu”, aiming to draw the conclusion of the triggers and grammaticalized mechanism of “Xialai” and “Xiaqu”. Both of them denoting space category is metaphorically extended to temporal category, relative category and state category. However, the grammaticalization degree of “Xialai” and “Xiaqu” are not the same.Chapter 5 is the conclusion, summarizing the whole thesis and pointing out the unsolved problems.
