Pragmatic transfer belongs to interdisciplinary research, which focuses on study of cross-cultural communication and second language acquisition as well. As great breakthrough of pragmatic transfer, speech acts have crucial guiding significance on intercultural practice and the English learners. In the diverse speech acts, greetings are the commonest and most complicated in daily life. Greetings, communicative acts, have pragmatic functions of establishing or consolidating social relationships between interlocutors and which serves as an interaction kind for develop and maintain relationship.In nature, how to greet properly is a kind of face-threatening speech act. In daily communication, people often apply for politeness strategies to weaken and desalinate such threat. In the thesis, the writer presupposes three questions to solve: 1. Are there pragmatic transfer when Chinese students greeting others in English? 2. What are the differences when the Chinese and westerners greeting others? 3. What are the factors affecting pragmatic transfer in greetings?The thesis consists of five parts. The first part is the introduction, including the research background, objective and significance. The second part reviews literature related to pragmatic transfer and greetings as speech acts, as well as the various politeness strategies and principles both in China and abroad. The third part focuses on the empirical research, including the research design, data collection and processing and the results research of the investigation. The thesis has devised both Chinese and English greeting editions, besides, there are situation and essay question drills for difference analysis. The forth part is the core, which listing the two main reasons affecting pragmatic transfer in greetings and providing useful strategies from three aspects. The fifth part summarizes the whole paper and provides implication and limitation for further study. |
