The subject" researches on the Buddhist content of sketchbooks in Tang and the Five dynasties," aimed at studying the Buddhism content in the sketchbooks of Tang and the five dynasties to explore the relationship between Buddhism and Taoism to reflect the features of this era by the content of the sketchbooks.This paper consists of an introduction, four chapters and conclusion. The four chapters are both independent from and cross-linked with each other. The first chapter briefly discussed the influence of Buddhism and Taoism had on the sketchbooks of Tang and the Five Dynasties. The prevalence of Buddhism had greatly enriched the content of sketchbooks and promoted its development. Among the authors of the sketchbooks, there were many religious people as well as Buddhism and Taoism scholars. From these selected Buddhism and Taoism stories, the religious color in the sketchbooks and its impact on the sketchbooks could be pried out, and the features of the era can be reflected. The widespread Buddhism and Taoism had added the subject matters to sketchbooks, on the other side; sketchbook had absorbed a lot of content from Buddhism and Taoism, which had also contributed to the spread of Buddhism and Taoism. In the second chapter, the author classified the Sketchbooks content that was associated with Buddhism according to two aspects, including "provide imagination" and "provide material", and especially proposed to attach importance to the Buddhist content in sketchbooks. In the third chapter, the conflicts between Buddhism and Taoism were observed from the sketchbooks of Tang and the five dynasties. As the representative of different ideologies and class interests, Buddhism and Taoism have complex relationship between them; there were both aspects of mutual integration and aspects of intense conflicts. In Tang and the Five Dynasties, in the process of accepting Buddhism, the state power was bound to intervene in Buddhism and Taoism forces by support or suppression, which would in turn have an impact on the creation of sketchbooks. This chapter was to analyze the blend and the struggle between Buddhism and Taoism and their impact on Sketchbooks, and reflect the conflicts between Buddhism and Taoism. The fourth chapter is a new study on the Long Cheng Lu by the author. Through analysis on the Buddhist content appeared in Long Cheng Lu and the religious view of Liu Zongyuan, with a comprehensive study of previous studies, the author concluded that the author of Long Cheng Lu was by no means Liu Zongyuan.
