The Research On Lighting Lantern Activities Of Dunhuang In Tang-Five Dynasties

Lighting lantern and bless the good life as a custom activity exists in China’s folk history widely. In Chinses ancient Lantern Festival, and also in Buddhism, Taoism ceremony, it was an indispensable link. In ancient Dunhuang, in a year, there were a lot of festivals which contains the line of lighting lantern. In this paper, author used The Dunhuang manuscript and encylopaedia, focused on the lighting lantern activities carried out in Dunhuang. By the fruitful discussion on evolution of the lighting lantern activities, author found that he pageantry lighting lantern activities in Dunhuang is same with that in ChangAn and LuoYang, It also absorbs the diversity of local culture, including Buddhism, also including factors of Confucianism and Taoism. At the same time, through the Dunhuang manuscript, The discussion further found the humanistic connotations of lighting lantern activities, that is, the pursuit of happiness and blessing, the vision for a better life. In addition, author also made collation of an important encylopaedia Sui Shi Guang Ji.
