On John Berger’s Visual Thoughts

John Berger is one of the important thinkers in the field of Visual Culture.He integrated the visual thought into the work of art,and give the visual culture research a new research angle of view.But the academic studies on Berger is not sufficient,they can not completely show the idea of Berger.According to this,the paper will study Berger’s work and demonstrate his ideas.This paper consists of four parts.In the introduction,we introduce the works of different periods of Berger firstly.Secondly,we explain Berger’s visual thought,including ideological criticism、 visual subjectivity、construction of ideal living experience.In Chapter One,we discuss Berger’s ideological criticism.Firstly,we explain Berger’s ideological criticism in artwork, artistic creation,and art form.Secondly,we evaluate the ideological criticism of Berger in the positive and negative sides.At last,We discuss the origin of the ideological criticism of Berger,and think his ideology criticism is influenced by the early critical method.In Chapter Two,we discuss Berger’s thought of visual subject.Firstly,we discuss Berger’s ways of seeing and the process of the concept of characterization.Secondly,we introduce Berger’s thought of seeing and being seen and the process of the power of haracterization.At last,we introduce Berger’s thought of gender politics.In Chapter Three,we introduce Berger’s late visual thought.Firstly,we introduce the transformation of Berger’s thought in his old age,transformed from his early ideological criticism to construction of ideal living experience.Secondly,we introduce the relation between the photography and ideal living experience.At last,we introduce the concrete process of constructing ideal living experience by photography and explain the photography telling...
