This is a translation project report on China Goes Global: The Partial Power(Chapter Seven) by David Shambaugh, a well-known China watcher in America, professor of political science and international affairs at George Washington University. It is an excellent book about China`s rise, and its seventh chapter mainly introduces China`s global security presence in detail, and expounds on the development course of China`s military modernization, evolving military missions, and the development of navy forces, air forces, missile forces, space-based capabilities and cyber capabilities. The text type of the source text is informative and political. The translator of this project takes André Lefevere`s translation as rewriting theory as a guiding theory. In André Lefevere’s view, translation is a rather complicated process subject to the ideological difference between the translator and the original author and influence of current dominant poetics. Therefore, during translating, the translator should delete, adapt or change the source text, so that the target text can accord with cultural environment of target language society to avoid ideological confrontation against target language society. In this report, the author analyzes text types and linguistic features of the source text, introduces a guiding theory for the translation, and illustrates difficulties encountered during translating and their corresponding countermeasures. By combining translation theories with practices, the author gains an opportunity to comprehensively improve his translation competence, so as to lay a solid foundation for later practice in translation. Moreover, it is hoped that this report will provide references for the study and practice of political text translation to improve its quality.
