On The Transcendence Of Heidegger’s Conception Of Truth To The Traditional Correspondence Conception Of Truth

Traditional correspondence concept of truth holds the opinion that truth is the correspondence between statement and thing. This kind of theory finds its origin in metaphysical epistemology which bases itself on the thinking mode of subject-object dichotomy. As the product of cognitive activities, truth is ready at hand, from which we can draw the conclusion that there is essential distinction between truth and untruth. The fact that this kind of theory lacks the precondition which makes correspondence possible made itself lost in dilemma. In order to jump out of this, scholars have tried numerous times from different angles of view. Heidegger attempts to explain in the ontological domain. To grasp truth and reveal the meaning of being, it is necessary to understand truth, from etymological aspect, as unconcealedness(alētheia). It is Dasein that put the thing as its object on the opposite position through its representative statement and make the object seen as an object itself. Beings are exposed in the field vision of time. The free existence essence of Dasein is the exactly reason why beings can be revealed as themselves. Therefore Dasein’s existing activities is the foundation of Heidegger’s ontology. His concept of truth is an extremely important part of his philosophical system. This theory transcends all kinds of traditional correspondence theories of truth. When it comes to the relationship between truth and untruth, there is no more essential distinction. The ontological untruth is the most original and is the foundation of truth. Here truth and untruth are closely related. That is why the inquisition to truth is a long-time process, which requires continuous effort. Logically truth is not carried by statement, but rather, truth bears statement. This kind of change emphasizes the importance of Dasein’s unfolding existing activities. Among all the beings, only Dasein can reveal the other beings while Dasein itself unfolds. This eliminates the deep gap between the world of subjects and that of objects and which,therefore,solves the difficulties of traditional truth theory. As for the ontological aspect, truth is always being generated; it can never be already made,which breaks down the traditional static thinking style. Later, out of the introspection of Dasein, he turns to linguistics to define truth and lays emphasis on the research of thought and poetry, which avoids the danger of subjective philosophy. The study on the transcendence of Heidegger’s truth conception to traditional truth conception has its enlightening meaning.
