| The Republic of Wine is Mo Yan’s fourth full-length novel, also is his first full-length novel which is set in the city. Unlike Mo Yan’s other novels, after the story was published in 1993, there was no movement in the readership and critics until the 21st century.The first chapter of this paper will analyzes the structure of the novel, redraw the chapter of the novel and compare it to other polyphonic novels, to find the effects of its special structure. Then, it will try to find the narrative strategy of this hodgepodge.Chapter II will focus on the language style of The Republic of Wine. This novel is special in that it’s the first full-length novel which is set in the city by Mo Yan, who was indulge in the way of village life and the local flavor. It still has strong characteristic of rural experience, although Mo Yan tried to imitate and parody other writers’ text characteristic. This exposed Mo Yan’attitude to the modernization of China.Chapter Ⅲ will return the novel itself, to discuss the characters and plot ignored by other critics, to find the tension between stories and the multiple themes of it. Combination of the above analysis, this paper will conduct an overall evaluation of the novel at the end,In a word, the paper tried to find the narrative strategy stylistic innovations by analyzing the text-narration and literary-comparative, and further explored the multiple themes which were hidden within the polyphonic narrative, the dialogue carnivalization and the parody. |
