As the first writer and compiler in Ming Dynasty, Yangshen’s accomplishments were not limited within poems, Ci, a type of classical Chinese poetry, or articles. According to his idea that everyone can write a poem, he attached importance to the folk literature. In the 10 th year of Emperor Zhengde, Yangshen collected the lost poems that were not collected in The Book of Songs from ancient times to the late Warring States Period and made the book The Elegant Poems. In the 22 th year of Emperor Jiajin, he compiled the proverbs from the ancient times to the years of Emperor Jiajin and made The Ancient and Modern Folk Songs and The Ancient and Modern Proverbs. These three books are important book series of ancient ballads and proverbs which had a big influence on The Ancient Poems compiled by Feng Weine and The Ancient Poems and Proverbs compiled by Du Wenlan. At present, the research on these three books are either listing the different versions or analyzing the content on the whole without deep research. With the arrangement and research on these three books, the essay aims to make up to the fully research on Yangshen.This paper mainly discusses the three version of this book, compiling, layouts and effects on this kind of literary works.
