| Franz·Schubert(1797-1828), an Austrian composer, is one of the representatives of the early European romantic music. In his life, Schubert has created thousands of music works, including symphony, orchestra, operas, religious songs, piano opusculum, art songs, sonata, etc and in which the art songs, symphony, chamber music and piano works represent his creative thought and artistic style mostly. However, the earliest romanticism lyrical style is found in his piano sonata works which latterly lays the groundwork for the development of the romantic music. ‘Sonata in G major(D. 894)’ is one of the most representative works of Schubert’s piano sonatas. In this paper we analyze and discuss this piano sonata in order to provide reference for the performance and teaching practice of this work.Compared to other musicians, Schubert is very good at using the repetition technique(RT) to promote the development of music. Thus, the application of RT becomes the prominent characteristics in the ‘Sonata in G major(D. 894)’. This paper focus on the study of RT through the analysis of music score and related background information of the ‘Sonata in G major(D. 894)’. The performance interpretation of this composition is also discussed based on the analysis of such technique characteristics. This paper will be divided into four parts:Chapter one is the introduction part, which includes the reasons and significance, research status and insufficiency of such issue.Chapter two is focusing on the analysis of RT in Schubert’s ‘Sonata in G major(D. 894)’. It is found that Schubert often uses the change of harmonic to give new connotation to the repeat theme. However, when repeating the music Schubert emphasizes the change of the music through different ways of modulation and thus promotes the development of music.Chapter three is about the further performance interpretation of such composition based on the music analysis in chapter two. It is believed that players should pay attention to the shade of harmonic and highlight the distinguishing features when playing repetitive materials. In addition, players need to understand the composer’s intention and promote the development of music through the change of music intensity.Chapter four is the conclusion part, which gives a summary to this study. This paper suggests that Schubert highlights the importance of music melody by repeating the material constantly. However, to avoid auditory fatigue, Schubert gives various change of harmonic and tonal to highlight the theme characteristics which also emphasize the music and produced various music features and conflict. In summary, ‘Sonata in G major(D. 894)’ perfectly shows the graceful singability, strong lyricism and full fantasy of Schubert’s art songs by the application of music repetition technique. |
