| This is a research thesis about the shift of national style of languages in Chinese-to-English (C—E) simultaneous interpretation with text.For any translation or interpretation, the shift from source language (SL) to target language (TL) is not simple and equivalent, but all-round and non-equivalent, which means that the shift should be carried out both in language meaning and language style. So, when interpreting simultaneously with text, interpreters have to turnover the using style of SL in limited time duration to accord with that of TL so that they can make TL natural, idiomatic and convey speech information completely. That is, interpreters should achieve proper shift in all levels of language’s using style, such as vocabulary, grammar or even speech etc.. And these belong to the category of national style of languages. Accordingly, the thesis sums up the characteristic of simultaneous interpretation with text and its operating requirements, and contrasts the national style of Chinese and English, based on which, the research is launched, hoping that it can provide student interpreters with theoretical reference.The thesis chooses President Xi Jinping’s "Address at the Opening Ceremony of the Ninth China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit" as researching material. By contrasting and analyzing Chinese and English sentences in this address, the thesis explains and exemplifies the differences between the national style of the two languages. That is to say, qualitative analysis is used in this part. Also, the thesis takes Domestication and Foreignization as theoretical guidance, under which, the research about the shift of national style of languages is conducted mainly in the following three aspects — wording, sentence making and indegineuous information transforming.The research shows that in the practice of C—E simultaneous interpretation with text, the skills used in the shift of language’s national style are multiple. When interpreting, in order to make TL effective and easily understood, the interpreters should use different skills comprehensively and dialectically. |
