Practice Study Report On C-E Translation Of The National Calibration Regulation Of The People’s Republic Of China(Excerpt)

Based on Eugene Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory, the report analyzes and concludes the translation practice of the National Calibration Regulation of the People’s Republic of China (Excerpt), which is provided by the author’s academic internship in 2014.The report consists of five chapters. Chapter one states the background information including contents, wring style and significance of the translation task. Chapter two illustrates the translation process containing the preparation before translation, translation activities and work after translation. Chapter three presents the brief introduction of Eugene Nida and his Functional Equivalence Theory, based on which the report also proposes available translation criteria applied to the source text and explains the application of the theory to the regulation translation. The translation text belongs to scientific and technical text sharing distinct linguistic and formal features. Thus, in chapter four, the report firstly concludes the linguistic features of the original text in lexical, syntactical and stylistic levels and then analyzes the translation strategies and methods adopted with detailed examples during the translation process. In chapter five, it points out the problems appeared in the translation process and put forward available solution. Also, the report shares the achievements and lessons gained after finishing the translation practice.On one hand, the report enriches and enlarges the application of Eugene Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory in science and technology translation. On the other hand, in view of instrument calibration is an emerging industry in most areas of China, especially in northwestern regions, there is less practice of calibration translation for now, and there is no translated text of this calibration regulation in China. The author hopes to offer a correct and standard translated version for calibration enterprises to promote their business cooperation and offer convenience for calibrators to follow.
