The Research On The Creation Theory In Liang Tingnan’s Tenghuating Quhua

Liang Tingnan’s Tenghuating Qhua is an important book on the theory of traditional Chinese opera in the late Qing Dynasty, which is included in the Anthology of Works on the Classical Chinese Opera now. The theory book talks about whether opera work is good or not based on either language or plot. There are some ideas about opera creation to be stated from Liang’s comments on language and plot.Aimed at explaining Liang’s ideas, this thesis will analyze the book from the main views including inheritance and innovation of opera creation, multidimensional observation of opera plot and diversified aesthetic appreciation of opera language, which is based on existing research results. The thesis is divided into three parts, namely introduction, text and conclusion. The introduction is Chapter One. It summarizes the diachronic research status about the book in order to introduce the frame of the thesis. The text includes four sections from Chapter Two to Chapter Five. Chapter Two gives a general view of the clear creation ideas from the description for a list of operas in the book with the purpose of starting the discussion below, so it can be regarded as the foreshadowing of leaving sections. Chapter Three analyzes Liang’s ideas of inheritance and innovation about opera creation based on the familiar topic in the literature creation. Chapter Four expounds the viewpoint of plot narration in the book from four dimensions including purport, preciseness, authenticity and tortuosity. Chapter Five elaborates Liang’s concept of language from the aesthetic point of elegance, naturalness, personalization and novelty. The conclusion summarizes the ideas above to make a remark on the creation theory in the Tenghuating Quhua.
