Frege’s Idea About Concept And Object

This article mainly discuss the distinction between concept and object made by Frege. This distinction has influence on the later logicians and one result of it is that we can deal with the problems of traditional metaphysics by the predicate logical method. When the logicians solve the ontology problems,they will follow the principle of Occam’s Razor. Through the analysis of language, Frege has divided the entities into two categories which he called concept and object. Different from our traditional understanding of concept, Frege’s concepts are special functions. According to the “refer-predicate “structure of the sentences, Frege had mapped the terms in language to the entities in the world, he mapped the reference words to the objects and the predicate ones to the concepts. In this article we will compare the thoughts about concept and object between Frege, Russell and Quine and point out that an approach of Analysis Philosophy is,to eliminate some objects, we can deal them with the method of predication. Reflect in the language, is to transform the reference words into predicate words.
