Analysis Of Linguistic Features And Socio-cultural Causes Of China English

Nowadays, English is the most widely-used language in the world and its globalization surely leads to its localization. Different English varieties are formed during the expanding of English in the world such as Indian English, Singaporean English, Australian English and etc. The widespread popularity of English in China gives rise to a new English variety, namely China English. As the combination of English and Chinese culture, China English shows typical Chinese characteristics.The study of China English began in the 1980s. The past study mainly focused on the conception and position of China English. Based on the previous study, the thesis aims to make a comprehensive analysis on the features of China English from different linguistic aspects such as phonology, lexis, syntax and discourse. According to the analysis, the thesis finds out that the linguistic features of China English are deeply influenced by Chinese language and Chinese thinking mode. Besides, the formation and development of China English are also related to socio-cultural factors such as politics, foreign activities, tourism, cyberculture and etc. These factors are the driving force of the development of China English and mark China English with Chinese characteristics to some extent.Cultural globalization is an objective trend and historical process of the development of world cultures, which inevitably leads to the conflicts between foreign cultures and native culture. Currently, Chinese culture is greatly shocked by foreign cultures while many problems exist in the output of China English such as small quantity and low quality. Since China English is an English variety with the core of Standard English and Chinese characteristics, it’s bound to become an important medium of the output of Chinese culture. Therefore, the thesis also gives some suggestions on how to output Chinese culture by means of China English.By analyzing the linguistic features and the socio-cultural causes of China English, such conclusions can be drawn:The formation of China English is influenced by Chinese language and Chinese thinking mode as well as socio-cultural factors. As the medium of outputting Chinese culture, China English can spread Chinese culture and promote the globalization of Chinese culture in an effective way.
