And the cello plays a necessary role in string quartet; as a result, it is necessary for us to know the importance of cellos in chamber music and to find the uniqueness of cellos in the generality of string quartet.The cello in string quartet plays a different role from other forms of cello performances, such as in the cello solo or in band ensemble. While in chamber music, the cello also has a multi-role. In the past, the researchers just studied on the music accomplishment of the performers, for example, the study on intonation or rhythm. What they have studied is the macro concept of ensemble, but this thesis mainly discussed the issues that should be paid attention to when the cello plays different roles in ensemble. This thesis is based on the chamber music and focus on the study of the uniqueness of cellos, and the same time, it also gives attention to the performance and skills of the performers. All of the studies aim to improve the level of the cello performers.The author has analyzed how the cello can better perform string quartet on the perspective of the multi-roles of cello in the string quartet. Firstly, the study has told the importance of cello in string quartet, which is an indispensable role in string quartet. Therefore, the reasons why it is so crucial lie on many parts. The reasonable analysis should be taken by orchestration, harmonics and musical aesthetics. The issues about the equipment of sound machines, the constitution of parts in concerted music and the composition of harmonics should be understood. After that, the importance of cello in string quartet appeared naturally. At the same time, the performers also need the excellent skills, music sense and outstanding humanity so as to perform this crucial instrument in string quartet. The cello has played many roles in string quartet, changing from the indispensable little finger into the costar and finally the major character. This kind of change is getting along with the development of the society and the progress of the humanity. Each role has its own character, and we can produce more excellent works by the analysis of each role.
