A number of family cemeteries of the Northern Song Dynasty have been excavated since the Song cemetery at Baisha was revealed in 1950 s. Substantial archaeological data provide basis for a systematical study of the Northern Song dynasty family cemeteries. This thesis, from an archaeological perspective, presents a comprehensive analysis based on elaborate archaeological data of the Northern Song dynasty family cemeteries, as well as correlative historical documents. Issues concerning site selection, Zhao-mu burial custom, tomb structure and decoration? burial goods, and unearthed writing material were discussed?and some preliminary results have been achieved. |
