Weng Wanda, a scholar in the highest imperial exams before the Emperor Jiajing of MingDynasty in1526, entered the government official circle as a civilian, then a military officerand later made his way to the Minster of War, the highest ranking in Chaozhou at that time.Weng was profound at military skills and a prolific poet.“Si de Tang Poetry Anthology”,including194poems, the only one complete works can be found at present, enjoys widelyadmiration by Ming people and future generations.Through the analysis of “Si de Tang Poetry Anthology”, we can seethe themes of Weng’spoetry basically are a patriotic loyalty, a filial piety father,a military officer with literatitemperamentwho “has the courage to take responsibilities”, whichis influencedbythe"dominant ethical philosophy" of Confucianism and Wang’s theory "advocates the practice". Andin all his works, the "tourist image poems" are the most unique. It not only adds a new role tothe poet’simage but also becomes an excellent evidence of local customs and practices of the midMing Dynasty border by describing the unique borderland topography. Secondly, Weng’s poeticsis the effect of "former seven scholars", also similar to the "Tang-Song Dynasty School", so hispoems not only follow the style of Tang, but mix with that of other dynasty’s, from imitation torevolution, containing both magnificent and tragic heroism Tang dilute style and characteristicsof Song poetry, namely,"Confucian’s philosophy in the poem".Thirdly, in the technique ofcreating poems, Wengis great atapplying reduplicated words and allusions to poetry, simplycarving, vivid, natural but not shallow. So the "heroic" Weng poetry, breaking through thegeographical restrictions, by its various features and superb writing skill, is also favorably whencompared with the works of other poets in the same period, which is a strong evidence todemonstrate that the poets from Chaozhou melted intothe mainstream poetry in the mid Ming.
