With the development of social linguistics study and functional linguistics study, the study in language variety has been the key and the core of the two branches. The study of language variation substantially offers the theoretical foundation and method for translation studies. More and more scholars are interested in the studies of the situational and social context. There are even more scholars begin to study the application of language variation in literature translation than before. The study in this field deepens the cognition of common problems in translation practice, persuasively explains some translation phenomenon. For a further step, the result of the study can guide translation practice more effectively. The study in this field plays a vital role in language understanding and usage, especially in literary translation; it can help us understand the original works thoroughly and deeply.Based on the integrated translation theories in and abroad, the author uses the methods of exemplification and comparisons, aims at comparing two Chinese versions of Sons and Lovers (Lawrence1993) from the dialect and the register aspects, illustrating the importance of language variation in the understanding and translation of the original works. In the novel Sons and Lovers (Lawrence1993), the use of language variation is one of its important feature. The two Chinese versions by Mr. Chen (2006) and Ms. Wang (2011) are the most popular works for Chinese readers.Through the study, the author points out the deficiencies in the two Chinese versions of Sons and Lovers (Lawrence1993), sums up that in literature translation, translators should understand the purposes of language variations used in the original works, strive to embody the features of these variations, use corresponding translation in order to reflect the features of characters and work styles to achieve pragmatic equivalence.
