Children’ literature is such a kind of literature specially composed or revised for children based on the need to educate them that it should suit children and be easy for children to understand. Children’s literature is very important in children’s growth. Ever since the foundation of New China in1949, children’s literature has received increasing attention from all departments of our country, such as the Culture Department, the Education Department and so on. With the works of children’s literature enriched, an increasing number of translated versions come out and meet with great favor among children. Almost all the important works of children’s literature are translated into Chinese. Children’ literature is also a kind of literature; thus, when translating, the translator should not only keep to the general rules of literature translation but also follow some particular rules. Children’s literature is different from adult literature in that the readers of children’s literature mainly focus on children. Therefore, the translators of children’s literature should choose the most suitable translation strategy to present the original text based on children’s needs. This report is based on my translating practice of Tom Swift Circling the Globe—a typical work of children’s literature. All in all, it is a brief introduction, a research and also a summary of the translating process. This report is made up of altogether five chapters; they are task description, process description, theoretical principles in translating process, case analysis, and the summary. As for all the five chapters, the case analysis is the key part. In this chapter, I go deeply into the translation of it from three perspectives of Functional Theories of Translation, they are, the perspective of text typology, the perspective of skopostheorie and the perspective of function plus loyalty.
