Vargas Llosa is hailed as “the structural realism master” and one of the major writersduring the big bang of Latin American literature. He is famous for his unique novelstructure and extreme consciousness in literary experiment. He won the2010Nobel Prizein Literature because of “for his cartography of the structures of power and his trenchantimages of the individual’s resistance, revolt and defeat”. Thus, he arouses wide publicconcern around the world. This paper will analyze Llosa’s The Way to Paradise from theperspective of narrative ethics. And the paper is divided into five sections:The introduction firstly combeds the research status of The Way to Paradise, thenintroduces the theoretical concept of narrative ethics and uses this model of criticism toanalyze the scientificity and feasibility of The Way to Paradise briefly. The first chapter expounds the author Vargas Llosa’s own ethics and its realisticbackground, then briefly overviews Llosa’s self-projection in also in his works. Llosa isregard as “the structural realism master” and most of his works is reality-based, so his workhas a very strong autobiographical feature. And his own ethics is bound to project onto hisworks. we can find Llosa’s own shadow whether in the ideological content of the works orin the main character of the novels. The second chapter analyzes the political ethics in The Way to Paradise. Llosa himselfholds the view of literature involvement and advocates that literature should activelyinvolved in politics. In this novel, he shows us the unjust political system in reason of thelack of ethical norms through Flora and Gauguin’s life experience in capitalist society. The third chapter explains the unique sexual ethics which both Gauguin and Florahold. In order to pursue individual freedom, these two people break through and evensubvert all the moral principles bravely with their sexual ethics which totally violate theprofane tradition to achieve final moral demands of individual freedom. The fourth chapter analyses that the ethical utopia which Flora and Gauguin havepursued all their lives is bankrupt and so is the ideal paradise which exists in their hearts and even all people have been searching all the time. It’s the powerful social reality whichGauguin and Flora face and their own deficiencies that leads to the disillusionment ofethical utopia in their mind. Though it’s actually a failure, they still leave us some usefulexperience and nice wish.
