Focused on the leaning of classical oil painting and based on the research of Royal Arts Academy’s first dean Joshua Reynolds’fifteen lectures through1769to1790in Royal Academy of Arts, this paper will talk about an appropriate theory learning guide for today’s art leaning.This paper includes an outline of the background of Reynolds, his art experiences and the analysis of his critical ideas in Reynolds’ Fifteen Discourses Delivered in the Royal Academy. After that, this paper will emphasize on the details, classification and the analysis of some important art learning methods talked in Joshua’s speeches.In the final chapter, this paper aims at Reynolds’s significant effect on the modern oil painting art study today.
