Study On The Abstract Forms Of Image Expressionism

Chinese artists had new interpretation of western abstract art when it spread into China. The abstract form had new aesthetic conception and aesthetic taste under the influence of Chinese philosophical thought of "oneness of man and nature" and traditional image thinking. Image Expressionism combine Chinese traditional aesthetic theory and national aesthetic psychological characteristics with western modern expressive painting skills to create contemporary art with Oriental taste. This thesis explores the historical development and the spiritual foundations of Chinese abstract aesthetics. It also analyse characteristics and the aesthetic interest of the abstract form about Image Expressionism by comparing the theory basis of modern western abstract art. and then it summarizes the problems and achievements and considerations during my art practices.This thesis sum up the development of forms from western abstract painting by studying the origination and history of abstract painting in western contemporary art. Different schools of abstract art and their art works become the examples of theoretical foundation and aesthetic means.It also sum up the art style with abstract aesthetic in Chinese traditional art to explore the theoretical sources and aesthetic thoughts.Then I compare eastern abstract aesthetic with western, and summarize the infleunce in Image Expressionism from two different abstract aesthetic and philology.It specifically study the compose, lines and color to analyze the expressing methods and aesthetic taste in Image Expressionism. The last part of the thesis summarize the my painting practice and theoretical stud.It include two parts. The fist part is the confusion of Image Expressionism style when I first come into the studio. The second part is about the my research and achievements. I consider the connection between objects and subjects, and I try to express my traditional aesthetic on the canvas. I give examples of my paintings and devices " the eyes of pedestrian" based on bicycle subject.I elucidate the my views, aesthetic taste and conceptions in the thesis. Therefore, this thesis summarize the influence from aesthetic theoretical basis of western abstract art by analyzing "hot abstract","cold abstract" and abstract expressionism.It also summarize the Chinese abstract conscious from calligraphy, pottery, bronze and fresco.This thesis focus on analyzing Houjiming’s two paintings, the host of Image Expressionism studio--"paradise" and "man with a guitar" in three parts to discuss the abstract in Image Expressionism and its unique aesthetic tastes.
