As an important branch of enterprise management, the development of projectmanagement has gradually improved perfectively abroad, but it is still on the stage ofbeginning in China. Thus, Chinese translation of the English textbook of projectmanagement can be beneficial for more Chinese students to understand this subject,learn and acquire more related knowledge.This Chinese translation practice includes all the steps needed in translationprocess and has a lot of work to do, which take Project Management in Practice, anoriginal English textbook from USA, as an example. The first draft and review wasfinished by the translator alone, and more comments and suggestions provided by theinstructor. This report describes the whole translation process and summarizes thetranslation skills used in this practice, and focuses on the preparation before translation,understanding of the full content, and problems and solutions in translation process.In accordance with the standard translation process, the report begins withselecting the translation task through background researching and preparing fortranslating which covers studying the characteristics of textbook language, readingparallel texts, and arranging the translation schedule when the translation theme isconfirmed. Digesting the text is the next step after a long time preparation. Reading andcomprehending the paragraph is a necessary step the translator must do. The third stepis expressing the text from English to Chinese. Textbook language is highly logic andeasy to understand. In order to facilitate the understanding of students without losing theoriginal meaning, except the proper nouns, the translator should use normal, flexible,clear words and sentences, in other words avoid using unfamiliar words and stiffsentences. Certainly, every paragraph should be concise and clear. Problems arised intranslating or expressing, including proper nouns translation, comprehensive sentencestranslation and different thinking styles between English and Chinese are solved byusing some translating techniques like abbreviation, passive-to-active, word conversion.More details will describe at the following part. By translating Project Management in Practice, the analysis of problems andtranslation approaches with theory and summary might provide a good reference forfuture students.
