| This is a children’s fiction translation report. The translator selects chapters2-9of the second book of Katy Series,What Katy Did at School,to do translation practice,and then writes a report on the basis of the completion of translation. The report firstlygives an introduction to the process of translation, the author and main content of thesource text, analyses the features of the source text and the difficulties in thetranslation process, and briefly introduces translation theoretical basis. Moreover,Combined with specific cases encountered in the translation process of “What Katydid at schoolâ€, it discusses children’s fiction translation methods from the aspects oflexis, rhetoric form and cultural elements from the perspective of reception theory: atlexical aspect,selecting colloquial words and appropriate four-character phrases,reduplicative words, interjections and Modal Particles as well as proper application ofadditions and omissions; at rhetoric aspect, being faithful to the source text on thecontent and form as far as possible in the process of children rhyme translation,conveying figurative meaning flexibly in simile and metaphor translation; handlingcultural elements by applying some translation techniques such as transliteration plusfree translation and paraphrase. Finally, the report summarizes translation practice bypointing out the shortcomings during the process and the reflection on children’sfiction translation. The translation program offers the translator an opportunity to havean insight into children’s fiction translation as well as improves her competence fortranslation to some extent. |
