“The unity of heaven and humanity” is one of the fundamental concepts of Chinesetraditional philosophy.This concept first formulated by Chuang-tzu.Later, Han Dynastythinker Dong Zhongshu developed it into the philosophy of “the unity of heaven andhumanity”, and thus build the main body of traditional Chinese culture.The concept “theunity of heaven and humanity” indicates the dialectical unity between man and nature--it isa kind of harmonious coexistence relationship.The concept “the unity of heaven and humanity” has a profound influence onChinese traditional art, and the most obviously manifested in the field of painting. Chinesetraditional landscape painting pursue the beauty of the world, focus on the performance ofthe universe life, the life sentiments of vegetation and landscape, and the manifestation ofthe life spirit.Therefore, the artist’s feelings in his works must be merged with gas of theworld, soul of the gods, and must have the spirit of transcending oneself. On the influenceof this concept, Chinese traditional landscape painting pays attention to people’s subjectconsciousness, highly advocating fusion of subject and object, make the paintingtranscends the object image description, so as to show the main internal spirit, express thepursuit of artistic conception.This paper mainly from the landscape painting expression technique, artisticconception etc. aspects proceeds the research to the concept “the unity of heaven andhumanity”.The concept “the unity of heaven and humanity” with Chinese traditionallandscape painting creation and the concept “the unity of heaven and humanity” in thecontemporary landscape paintings are the focus of this paper.This paper also combines theancient and contemporary landscape painting works to research the concrete embodimentof the concept “the unity of heaven and humanity”.According to analysis on these works,the conclution was drawn as follows, the traditional aesthetic spirit of “the unity of heavenand humanity” pointed out the development direction of Chinese traditional painting, andgradually formed context. The development of Chinese traditional painting is along thiscontext extending, developing and innovating.Therefore, inherit and develop the concept“the unity of heaven and humanity” has important practical significance to promote thedevelopment of Chinese painting in the future.
