A Translation Report Of Singing, Health And Well-being: A Health Psychologist’s Review

This report is based on a translation of a paper about the review of the researcheson the associations among singing, health and well-being. Along with the improvementof people’s material and cultural level, they increasingly focus on the health andwell-being issues. Thus, such kinds of studies and researches have sprung up in recentyears, among which there are studies and researches on the association among singing,health and well-being.The reason why the translator chooses this text is that we still lack this kind ofresearches in China, so this may give some references for the researchers of this fieldin our country and meanwhile enable readers in china to learn more relevantknowledge. In this report, it describes the pre-preparation work such as professionalterms, text analysis and the key points and difficult points of the translation.Meanwhile, there are quite lots of problems during the translation, which the translatorwill list in the report. And the description of the problems will be combined with theuse of some related translation theories, such as the parallel text and skopostheorie, andso forth.Through this translation practice, several conclusions can be drawn as follows:firstly, in terms of the translation of the academic paper, particularly those areinterdisciplinary, preparations must be fully made, including learning the relevantknowledge of the fields associated. Secondly, in order to do such translations well,there must be some good reference books for checking terms; for example, in thistranslation, there are a lot of foreign names to be checked, so a dictionary of names isnecessary. Thirdly, when doing such paper translation, it is critical to keep the similarstyle of language and choose proper diction. Fourthly, under the Skopostheorie, whilemaking it certain that the translation is faithful to the original text in meaning, it shouldrearrange and recombine the text to some extent with the use of such translationtechniques as reduction and expension etc. based on the purpose of the translation andthe readers’ cultural levels. In addition, it also points out the limitations of thistranslation and some existing defects concerning the wording and understanding of the original text and meanwhile offers some suggestions for future translation practice.
