Thomas hardy is the most famous writer at the end of19th century in England, advantages and disadvantages have been debated about his work for a long time. Some works even get the opposite of two kinds of evaluation. But all the critics praise Wessex’s amorous feelings which are shaped in Mr. Hardy’s novels. Historic custom, honest and frank residents, rich mysterious country scenery in the text make the Wessex become the habitat of traditional culture of Britain.Even so, the industrial revolution is still left traces on the Wessex. The confliction of two kinds of power, and two kinds of culture constitute the tone of Hardy’s novels. Accordingly, our native writer Luyao also look to Loess Plateau this vast barren land, described the changes of this land in the period of reform and opening up. Neither of these two writers in the history of environmental or describing objects have different approaches but equally satisfactory results.Although times changes’influence of the rural society is the same theme which Hardy and Luyao depicted, but based on the traditional culture and the transformation are different, the two writers not only has different style, but also depicting different rural amorous feelings, the characters also have different spiritual temperament.All these have influence on the young men to make choice in the changing times. Rich knowledge of young people is to focus on shaping the characters of the two writers, and to a certain extent, with the author’s autobiography color, bearing the writers’ feelings of the times, reflection and hope. Through the understanding of the text, can reveal Thomas hardy’s and Lu Yao’s different understanding of the times and different life pursuit.Through their different ways of regarding nature, Hardy and lu yao also show a different view of the world, and the differences cause the differences of ethos:the people of wessex are the mixture of Dionysian spirit and chivalry, and the villagers of the loess plateau are the Beneficiaries of nomadic culture and farming culture. On the basis of the difference existed in the ethos, Two worlds both though the damage of economic to the rural society. Due to the writer’s difference positions and concerns, this damage has different forms in the text. The life of common character in writers’ works--the young man who love knowledge shows, this group seems to have only two ways at that time:homesickness and the return of the native. This thesis has some significance of the times.
