The Reseach On The Semantic Basis And Evolution Of Momentum Word "番" And "通"

Momentum words "番"and"通" is a pair of near-defined momentum words,scholars often put them together and do comparative studies. But scholars havedifferent opinions on what are the similarities and differences between bothmomentum words; and all of the studies in terms of these two momentum words areon the Synchronic plane, scholars didn’t reseach Why the both have these similaritiesand differences from the perspective of the evolution of semantic interpretation.This paper argues that the major similarities and differences of the momentumwords "番"and "通" in modern Chinese are the measurement objects and semantics ofboth, the differences between the two terms ofmeasurement objects are determinedby the semantic differences, and both semantics differences are the results of theirsemantic foundations and evolution.Wu Fuxiang (2005) based on a new knowledge of Chinese grammar developmentsand observed the status of research on grammar study abroad,argued thatGrammaticalization related semantic research is one of the four topics needs to focuson in Chinese, so this paper argues that researching the semantic foundations andevolution of momentum words"番"and"通"is really necessary.In the first chapter based on Beijing University corpus,we give a comprehensiveand detailed study of momentum word "番"and"通",the measured objects of both areclassifyed,we found the sequence of objects. In the second chapter and the thirdchapter we give a detailed study of momentum words "番"and"通" on the last level,we research the evolution of these two Momentum words, and make a thoroughinquiry on the factors that effect the evolutions of each. In the forth chapter wecompare the similarities and differences between the two, and summarize the rootcause leading to of the similarities and differences of both.
