The Imagination And Construction Of"New Women" In Late Qing Fictions

Niehaihua,the masterpiece of Zeng Pu is known as one of " Four Condemnation Novels of the late Qing Dynasty ",which shows the vast and colorfui social life of the late Qing Dynasty. At the same time,several important role of women in this book is quite distinctive and unique compared with many novels wrote in the same period.Fu Caiyun,Xia Yali represent the image of "New Women" of late Qing Dynasty.Xia Yali represents the patriotic new women in the imagination of late Qing scholars, but the creation image of Fu Caiyun subverts the traditional novel narrative mode and provides another possibility for the late Qing scholars to imagine the modern women. The characterization of these women also reflects the imagination and construction process of "New Woman" by this generation of intelligentsias such as Zeng Pu.This article aims to analyse the new women’s unique image in the literary world of the lat Qing Dynasty,taking Zeng Pu’s work Niehaihua for example.
