This paper studied and analyzed the consonant, vowel and tone systems of Haian dialect which belong to Jianghuai Mandrin in Tongtai district. We also collected first-hand voice data of Haian and the surrounding areas such as Nantong, Xinghua which has seven tones and Taichow,Rugao, etc which has six tones to carry on a comparative study.Through multi-point data analysis and comparison, we could study the language problems of Haian dialect from synchronic and diachronic perspects. The full text consists of five chapters, the first chapter introduces Haian County’s geographical and cultural environment and the situation of the dialect briefly. Then give a general review of previous research about Haian dialect. At last, it also introduces the research methods and languge materials resource. The second chapter describes Haian dialect characteristics comprehensively. All the voiced initials of Haian dialect are all devoiced, which display the typical characteristic of Mandarin; The finals system is similar to northern Wu dialect, which has54vowels, the largest number in the Tongtai dialect, including rich nasal rhymes and Cuokou rhymes. Ru tone reserves two categories:Yin and Yang, Yang higher than Yin, this phenomena echoed with the Hakka dialect.Dialect sound change is mainly manifested in tone Sandhi, the "er"suffixation, literary and colloquial readings, etc.The third chapter compared the phonology of Haian and the Medieval sound system. Phonology of Haian dialect simplified greatly. Tongue sound initials t(?)、t(?)、(?) differentiated out of "jianjing" initial groups according to QiChiHu and CuoKouHu initials respectively. Haian dialect phonology based on Wu dialect. As the northerners moved toward south in the past dynasties, and the southerners moved to the north during the Ming Dynasty, the incomers brought the important influence to the local area, helped the development of Haian dialect, we can find the corresponding form of some language phenomenon in Hakka and Gan, Xiang dialect. The fourth chapter studied the Haian dialect and dialects of the surrounding areas and Beijing dialect speech system comparatively. Haian has yε、yε、yε?, etc, however, Xinghua, Rugao has fewer CuoKou rhymes. These" new faces" actually evolved from HeKou rhymes, the evolution of Medieval Zhi, Zhuang, Zhang consonant group in dialects appeared in a variety of types, relatively complex. Haian dialect differentiated into two categories:group ts and group t’. The richness of CuoKou rhyme can be seen as a new round of "palatalized" effect. Secondly, combination of f/x and HeKouHu in each dialect is not the same, there are three types: Nantong, Xinghua type; Taichow type; Haian type, there is a brief review in the second section. The fifth chapter summarizes the characteristics of Haian dialects. Tongtai area is between Wu dialect and Hong-chao dialect, and belong to Mandarin system, with a little phonetic features of Wu dialect. Such as "zhiwei merged into yu rhyme," as well as the singleness of vowels, keep the Yin and Yang Ru tone groups, etc. The influence of the standard dialect will draw the local dialect speech system close to strong Mandarin speech system rapidly, the adjustment and evolution of internal system is underway.
