From the Middle Age to the early modern age, The North Sea and Baltic trade area was the main international trade center of Europe. The history of this area was focused by many historians. And the grain trade, which was so important in this eara. was became one of the most important economic power from the Middle Age to the early modern age. This essay discusses the general context of the grain trade in Baltic from14th century to the19th century, and reveals how was the North Sea and Baltic trade area developed, and along with the whole change course of the grain trade in this area within this six centuries, which experienced from development to prosperity, relative decline and then to the development process of ups an downs. And also reveals the influence to the social and economic of the Baltic grain trade in Europe. In addition, with profound research of the Baltic grain trade, we can explore the importance of the Baltic grain trade to the Europe historical development through this common trade area, and also help us to indicate the Europe economic development with a global perspective.The whole article is divided into three parts, except the introduction and conclusion.Chapter I discourses the formation and development of the Baltic grain trade. First, we investigate the formation of the North Sea and Baltic trade area through two sections, which are the special natural and geographical environment in Baltic and early trade explore of the Nordic businessman. Then, we focus on the macroscopic handing of the Baltic grain trade in fourteen to nineteen centuries by five historical periods, so as to make a preliminary understanding of the Baltic grain trade.Chapter II mainly discusses the socioeconomic transformation of the two ends of the Baltic grain trade. East side is supplier, which spread over the coast of the Baltic. West side is the marking center, which is Amsterdam. The socioeconomic transformation of the two ends directly forms the background of the Baltic grain trade development, and this undoubtedly restricts the evolvement tendency of this trade; on the other hand, the evolution of the grain trade exerts an influence on the two ends social economy.Chapter â…¢ briefly summarizes the affect of the Baltic grain trade from fourteen to nineteen centuries in Western Europe. First, the Baltic trade is an important landmark to Holland economy. The grain trade is considered as the mainstay of its economy in early modern period. In addition, just due to the thrive of the Baltic grain trade, some big cities received the basic grain supply, such as Italy and Antwerp. We reversed the analysis to see the whole socioeconomic transfomiation in Europe.
