Music is a language by which human beings reveal their inner world and feelings and depict their life, and it is a language that is more vivid and advanced than the daily language. The conducting is also a language in which hands are used to show the different types of music. Responsibilities and roles of conductors are similar to the drama directors’, but the directors just direct instead of acting in the drama, while conductors are both directors and leading actors. Therefore, it said that there isn’t no good orchestra but disqualified conductors. On the stage, the conductors who are silent show the music by the conducting gestures and pictorial presentations of their hands. In this paper exploring the related gesture skills of conducting, Chapter One is about the history and significance of conducting; Chapter Two studies the various beat gestures of conducting; combining the differences of conducting symphony orchestra and chorus, Chapter Three presents the similarities and differences of conducting gestures; Chapter Four makes a research on rehearsal practice of conducting through the music style of the works and rehearsal guidance; Chapter Five proposes the suggestions and requirements on conductors. Combining gesture skills of conducting and pictorial presentations, presenting the relationship of conducting and breath of music and also conducting of works, Chapter Two, Chapter Three and Chapter Four, which are about the practice of conducting gestures, illustrate every bar and every beat of conducting gestures. Thus it makes the abstract gestures easier to be understood. Hopefully this paper can bring some inspiration and help to the conducting learners.
