The purpose of this study was to investigate the achievement and effectiveness of three different teaching forms in violin beginning stage education for individuals, group lesson and the combination of both.This study belonged to an action research. A quantitative research method was applied. The subjects included18violin beginning-level students at5-6years old who were randomly assigned to three different forms of violin classes, such as individual lesson, group lesson and a combination of individual and collective lessons. The research tools consisted of Gordon’s "Musical Aptitude Test"(MAP)-for rhythm and melody,"Violin Achievement Tests"(VAT),"The Questionnaire of Violin Experimental Lesson"(QVEL), and Lesson Plans. The research procedures contained:(1) Gordon’s MAP, as a pre-test, was applied to18subjects, and the results indicated there was no difference among the subjects.(2) The subjects participated a period of eight week violin lessons, and there were two30-minute lessons every week. The main content of violin lessons focused on the ability of music reading, listening and singing, sight-reading, and the basic violin playing skills.(3) After eight weeks,Gordon’s MAP, VAT and QVEL were applied to subjects and their parents. Through the application of SPSS software, collected data was analyzed by descriptive statistics, T-test, ANOVA and Kendall-W test for post-test.The Results of the study indicated as follows:1. From "Gordon musical aptitude test" before and after measurements presented results, all students’intermesh of musical ability melody significant progress, especially embodied in the collective group of student’s progress in class melodic aspects. Individual lessons group of student achievement intermesh of both rhythm and melody showed slight improvement. Comparison of the data from the three groups the mean overall rhythm and melody, a combination of individual and collective group were significantly higher than the other two groups, still show a certain advantage.2.The"excellent"from the violin achievement tests show that the largest number of groups is "a combination of individual and collective" Teaching students up to "normal" number is a collective group lessons, individual lessons were excellent compared to poor distribution the other two most evenly.3. Violin experimental curriculum survey shows that in school, the after-school piano, music literacy increased,the degree of change and other aspects of interest are"a combination of individual and collective"group of students and parents the best feedback.
