The Life Philosophy In The Poetry Of Zhang Zao

Zhang Zao is not only a poet with strong philosophy sense in contemporary China, but also a representative and influential leader among pioneer poets. By analyzing his poems, we can find his persistent exploration in philosophy during his process of creating poetry.Based on the existing researches, my thesis discusses Zhang Zao’s life experience in order to master the philosophy of life in many ways which include closing reading his texts. The introduction of my thesis first comes to the relationships among Zhang Zao, his poetry and the philosophy, and then I will elaborate how the philosophy and Zhang Zao connects with each other in the perspective of the relationships mentioned above. The first chapter will discuss Zhang Zao’s psychological dimension because of losing consciousness, which also means he couldn’t confirm himself. The unconsciousness mainly reflects in the lost of belief, existence and dimension of expression. And this is also the starting point of Zhang Zao’s philosophy of life. Chapter two will discuss that Zhang Zao wanted to continue his pursuit in consciousness which can be also called as the seeking awareness because he was lost in the psychological dimension. The seeking towards persons, the recognition of truth in life and the survey towards historical tradition become a process of pursuit which was a way for Zhang Zao to free himself from the psychological dimension. Chapter three will focus on meditation that produced from consciousness of nihility, ponder on death, the confrontation between nihility and reality when Zhang Zao sought to free himself from the psychological dimension while this kind of meditation was a way of surpassing himself. By analyzing these chapters above, I think that Zhang Zao’s philosophy of life is the philosophical understanding towards life itself as an individual. These understandings contain honesty, bravery and rational solicitude for caring life.
